Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about our services, appointments, insurance, and more.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, we accept several major insurance plans including Optum, BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, Aetna, and United Healthcare Community Plan. We also offer self-pay options. Please contact us to verify your specific insurance coverage.
What conditions do you treat?
We treat a wide range of mental health conditions including anxiety disorders, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, eating disorders, panic disorder, and OCD. We provide both medication management and supportive therapy for each condition.
Is telepsychiatry effective?
Yes, research shows that telepsychiatry is just as effective as in-person care for most mental health conditions. Virtual appointments provide the same quality of psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and therapy with added convenience and accessibility.
What medications do you prescribe?
As a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Esder Shin prescribes a full range of psychiatric medications including SSRIs, SNRIs, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, stimulants, and anti-anxiety medications. Medication selection is personalized based on your symptoms, medical history, and treatment goals.
How quickly can I be seen?
We strive to see new patients within 1-2 weeks. For urgent concerns, please call us at (323) 744-5605 to discuss your situation. We offer both virtual and in-person appointments to accommodate your schedule.
What is GeneSight testing?
GeneSight is a pharmacogenomic test that analyzes your DNA to predict how you’ll respond to different psychiatric medications. This helps us select the most effective medication for you from the start, reducing trial-and-error and improving treatment outcomes.
Do you offer virtual appointments?
Yes! We offer secure HIPAA-compliant virtual appointments via video conference. Telepsychiatry is available for patients throughout California, making mental health care accessible from the comfort of your home.
What should I expect during my first appointment?
Your first appointment is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation lasting 60-90 minutes. Esder Shin will review your mental health history, current symptoms, medical background, medications, lifestyle factors, and treatment goals. You’ll discuss treatment options and develop a personalized care plan together.
Do you treat medication-resistant conditions?
Yes, we specialize in treating complex cases where patients haven’t responded well to standard medications. We use advanced approaches including medication combinations, GeneSight testing, dosage optimization, and integration with therapy to help achieve better outcomes.
